Brandenburg Road,
Sunshine Coast
Brandenburg Road is a Sunshine Coast Regional Council (SCRC) controlled Neighbourhood Collector Road providing connection for local residents between Bald Knob and the Mooloolah Valley. Brandenburg Road commences at a three-way intersection with Diamond Valley Road and Bray Road and extends west for a distance of approximately 4.8km, terminating at the intersection with Hovard Road.
Brandenburg Road traverses both an urban and semi-rural environment with heavily undulating and winding geometry. There are a number of steep climbs along the route with grades of up to 22%. There are a numerous visibility issues throughout the extent of the corridor because of poor horizontal and/or vertical geometry, cuttings, steep grade and vegetation providing limited available stopping sight distance.

Our Project Mission
Our mission was to develop a design philosophy to allow consideration of upgrading identified safety deficiencies on Brandenburg Road that provides the best outcomes in terms of sustainable safety within the limited budget available.
Our Approach
Our process included initially carrying out a safety assessment to identify current deficiencies and safety concerns on the link. Short term and long-term remedial mitigation treatments were recommended to improve the safety of Brandenburg Road.

This would support input into a ‘Road Upgrade Assessment Framework’ to upgrade the corridor. Numerous workshops were held with council to develop the framework.

To assist SCRC with their forward planning, a multi criteria analysis was undertaken to determine the priority of identified sections along the road.
The Result
We have been engaged to undertake the concept through to detail design of several sections along the road.
