2021 Completion
Our Project Mission
Our mission was to achieve a high quality and low stress commuter cycle facility between the Ipswich City Centre and emerging Ripley Valley. The proposed bikeway would form part of the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) principal cycle network within the City of Ipswich.
Our Approach
The project required multiple road crossings and consideration of over 10 intersections. Although the major road crossing remained with vehicle priority, all minor road crossings were converted to provide priority to cyclists via raised priority crossings to ensure directness, safety and comfort.
The project scope included a combination of 3m wide shared use path and 3m wide in verge/on-road bi-directional cycle track on Thorn Street.
The Result
The design was consistent with the Safe System Approach and DTMR’s Active Transport Investment Program requirements, ensuring appropriate vehicle speeds, so that the public were not exposed to crash forces that would lead to fatal and serious injury outcomes.
The project placed priority on the cyclist mode of travel to suit the requirements outlined in DTMR’s Active Transport Investment Program.
