Project Category

Timeframe
May 2020 – April 2021
Our Project Mission
The project design intent was to create a vibrant main street and encourage the travelling community to stop in the Miles CBD. The extent of the project is bounded by the Leichardt Highway to the east and Pine Street to the west and to include transitions at project extents.
Our Approach
Harrison Infrastructure Group (HIG) in partnership with SMEC provided the civil engineering and electrical design aspects for this project.
The scope included:
-
Functional road layout (including over size over dimension, speed limit review, turning provisions at intersections)
-
Pathway treatments and connectivity
-
Landscaping
-
Lighting, street lighting, up-lighting opportunities
-
On street parking
A concept plan had been developed previously and approved by WDRC. HIG and SMEC adopted the concept plan and moved forward to develop the detailed design.
The successful execution of the project relied heavily on Consultant Lead HIG, collaborating with Council, DTMR, the Landscape Design Consultant and key stakeholders through open communication, consistent messaging and the coordination of the scope to meet the set critical timeframes.
The Result
We were proud to produce an outcome where the Miles Streetscape was awarded the commendation in the 2023 Department of Energy and Public Works, Minister’s Urban Design Awards for Movement and Place (QLD) and also awarded the Regional Achievement Award at the 2023 QLD AILA Awards. It was also a finalist in the 2023 National Street Art Awards.
