Murweh Shire Flood Restoration

Project & Program Management

HIG was engaged by Murweh Shire Council to manage their $90M 2012 flood program. We provided full program and project management services including program scoping and closeout, preparation and management of tenders, contract management and supervision, and liaison and coordination with QRA.

  • The program consisted of the rehabilitation of 16 local roads around the Charleville, Morven and Augathella areas.

  • The program also included the rehabilitation of the second runway at the Charleville airport.

  • The preconstruction budget was $70m but was delivered for approximately $55m.

  • All funding was to cease on 30 June 2014 and the program of works was completed within this timeframe and within the approved construction budget.

HIG gained approval for an alternative construction process using cement stabilisation. By utilising this construction process, existing in-situ materials could be recycled and supplemented with gravels sourced locally from established pits. It resulted in a substantial reduction in the cost to haul gravels, reduced construction time and a significant reduction in overall cost.
